Velvetine are a hard-hitting, guitar-based five piece. They only formed in May 2001 and yet despite this are already capable of performing two straight hours of melody-drenched, eclectically original songs. Despite their short existence they have still found time to record a live EP (released 13/09/01) and attract acclaim from many discerning ears within the industry. Velvetine are rapidly becoming defined as simply a collection of superlatives.

Velvetine

Sarah Formerly of the Jodies (an Exeter-based 4 piece who attracted interest from Gut Records amongst others), Sarah provides lead vocals for Velvetine. Her dynamic stage presence is both consistently praised and occasionally terrifying and she is undoubtedly one of the highlights of the band’s live show.

Tony Formed part of Kutch, in common with Dave and Rob J, and as such attracted interest from Creation, Sony and Catt Records. Tony plays guitar and also contributes backing vocals (once likened to a drunk tramp). Classically trained (piano and euphonium) he is also an experienced sound engineer

Dave Was also part of Kutch and completes the guitar line-up. Dave has combined melodic originality with sonic inventiveness and arrived at a style which is highly eclectic yet instantly recognisable. As an archaeologist he is also the member of the band most likely to be paid to spend a month on a Caribbean island (Dave spent July 2001 on Nevis)

Rob C Formerly of Ska-bop (a 9-piece ska band which among other things performed at Glastonbury festival) Rob provides distinctively funky yet mellifluous Bass for Velvetine. He is currently producing dance remixes of some of the live recordings which the band hope to release at a later date.

Rob J
In common with both Tony and Dave was formerly a member of Kutch and he completes Velvetine’s rhythm section as well as contributing backing vocals. An energetic and charismatic live presence, Rob appears at times to form a connection with an audience through sheer force of will. He also, amongst everyone in Velvetine, has played with the most different bands, ranging from a fifties covers outfit called Silver Street to a Slade Tribute called Feel the Noiz
