Malarchy
play Trans-European Travelling Roots Music, a highly devious and energetic
hybrid of fiery original material, Gypsy, Klezmer and
other East European violin styles, with guitar accompaniment inspired
by equal measures of the swing jazz of Django Reinhardt's
Hot Club rhythm section, and le Punk Rock. They are determined
to take this music out of the stale atmosphere of the concert hall,
give it back its wild and dangerous edge, and take it back to the streets,
fields and waterways.
Malarchy are an ideal act for festivals, pubs, clubs, street events,
acoustic nights, restaurants, bars, weddings, birthdays, parties and
celebrations of every kind, and you really should book them now!
Malarchy were formed by Nell Farrally (Violin), and Cris Pierssené
(Guitar & Footboard), who have been performing together since 1997.
Highlights include running their own stage at Under One Sky 2002, touring
Hungary, performing for both Glastonbury Festival, and BBC Music Live,
giving numerous radio interviews, and radio airplay for their CD as
far away as Canada. They are in possession of a wide array of suits,
ball gowns, carnival marching costumes, waistcoats and hats, and can
be relied upon to look the part, wherever they play. Alternatively,
they can dress down for more informal occasions, or if your budget won't
stretch to dry cleaning bills.
The most recent addition to Malarchy is Russ from Gringo Ska, Ziganova,
Facing the Ocean, and a host of other wonderful acts. A talented multi-instrumentalist,
Russ plays Guitar, Violin, Mandolin, Bouzouki, and Harmonica. In other
bands. With Malarchy he gets to play percussion.
